In anticipation of the president's State of the Union address, I fell asleep in front of the TV only to be awakened by some annoying ranting and rambling. At first I thought I'd left the History Channel on and was hearing a historical clip of a petty despot until I realized it was the president's address, already underway.
Even though I was sure nothing about this administration could surprise me anymore, I was astounded, nonetheless, by the president's combative tone. Considering his failed presidency, one would think he'd be a bit humbler before the American people and more cooperative with congressional Democrats. But there he was in full "Mission Accomplished" mode (minus the flight suit), as prideful and bellicose as ever, pledging to continue his destructive policies and spin doctoring how they've actually helped us when, in fact, the opposite is true.
This speech was undoubtedly designed to persuade us of the efficacy of his reign and perhaps to give a boost to the Republican presidential candidate this fall. Based on the past seven years of his administration, six of which were dominated by a Republican-controlled Congress, the president needs to come clean about his political sins (the list of which is too long to enumerate here), and Republicans should make amends for their ruinous policies by withdrawing their presidential candidate and sitting out the next election as penance.
